We provide content and educational resources for youth with AIS and their parents.
AIS is an irregular, sideways curvature in the spine.
It has no known cause or cure.
Our Why
Being diagnosed with a unique medical condition causes challenges that only those who have also experienced it understand. The challenges are even greater as a teen with a spinal disorder. Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) causes an irregular curvature in the spine, but it also affects a person’s physical mobility, mental health, body image, and social experience.
Underrepresented teens who have AIS need our support. They need information and a community that helps them learn how to deal with their diagnosis and how to communicate their feelings about it. More importantly, they need examples to show them how not to become their diagnosis, but to be empowered by it.
Equity to Thrive
Degrees and Curves, Inc. provides resources, content, and coaching that empowers underrepresented youth to live a productive and full life,
despite their AIS diagnosis.
Without these efforts, adolescents who have AIS and no support system will become adults who feel like their life is forever governed by their diagnosis. They’ll feel alone, ashamed, and powerless because they lack the resources and support they need to have a better quality of life.
This demographic needs equity to thrive.
